Two components define the used Infiniti record, and both belong to 2014. On the Infiniti Q50, the 2014 car has 169 complaints and a score of 37, and 78 of those complaints are Steering; on the Infiniti QX60, the 2014 car has 229 complaints and a score of 33, and 118 of them are Power Train. Both nameplates recover: the Q50 from 2016, reaching 94 in 2020 on 3 complaints, and the QX60 from 2015, reaching 93 in 2016 and again in 2020. The Infiniti QX50 is the reverse case, clean from 2014 to 2017 and then AVOID in 2019, at 45 on 137 complaints, with Engine the problem. The Infiniti Q50 Hybrid and Infiniti QX60 Hybrid share their petrol siblings' 2014 patterns almost exactly, and the site scores them separately.

The 2014 Q50: steering

The 2014 Q50 logs 14.1 complaints per year on the road, and Steering at 78 is more than the next three components together: Electrical System 42, Power Train 19, and Unknown Or Other and Air Bags at 16 each. The record names the cause, because two safety-critical campaigns cover it. Campaign 13V588000, issued 20 November 2013, before most 2014 cars were delivered, covers Direct Adaptive Steering software that could misbehave if the engine compartment reached freezing temperature; 16V430000, issued 13 June 2016, covers the same Direct Adaptive Steering system on 2014 to 2016 Q50s and Q50 Hybrids built through December 2015. The Q50 Hybrid's 2014 record is the same shape with slightly larger numbers: 182 complaints, 15.2 per year, Steering 83, Electrical System 44. The site scores the hybrid 72, BUY, against the petrol car's 37, but a buyer should read the steering figures as one problem across both.

The 2015 Q50 has 125 complaints, 11.4 per year, and scores 44, still AVOID. Power Train leads at 39, Steering is second at 28, and Vehicle Speed Control appears at 21. The 2015 Q50 Hybrid, at 112 complaints, has the same order: Power Train 31, Steering 24, Air Bags 19, Vehicle Speed Control 15. A campaign issued years later reaches back to these cars: 24V470000, issued 21 June 2024, for a driveshaft that can fatigue and break on 2014 to 2018 two-wheel-drive Q50s.

From 2016 the Q50 is a different car on paper. Complaints fall to 39, then 62 in 2017, 42, 30, and 3 in 2020, with scores of 79, 66, 79, 87 and 94. Engine becomes the top component from 2016 to 2019, at 10, 17, 17 and 10, and Steering drops to 6 in 2016 and out of the top five after that. The 2017 car is CAUTION at 66; its campaigns include 17V571000 for a driver air bag inflator that may have been improperly welded, and 17V476000, issued 27 July 2017, for fuel pump control module software on 2016 to 2018 cars with the 2.0-litre engine that may let the main tank run too low to supply fuel. The 2021 to 2023 cars have 4, 1 and 7 complaints and scores of 91 to 93; 2024 is DATA PENDING.

The 2014 QX60: power train

The 2014 QX60 is the worst year in this guide by count: 229 complaints, 19.1 per year on the road, seven recall campaigns with five safety-critical. Power Train accounts for 118, more than half the total, then Unknown Or Other 33, Engine 32, Air Bags 25 and Vehicle Speed Control 19. No campaign on record addresses the power train on the 2014 QX60, so the record gives the symptom but not the remedy. The campaigns it does carry include 13V445000 and 15V012000 for the brakes, 15V681000 and 14V138000 for the air bags and their occupant classification software, 14V229000 for a wheel lug nut that may not have been tightened, and 15V033000 for the bonnet hinge. The 2014 QX60 Hybrid, with 221 complaints and Power Train at 116, is scored 68, CAUTION; it does have a power-train-related campaign, 21V774000, issued 4 October 2021 for 2014 to 2017 hybrids, for control module software that may shut down the hybrid system and the engine.

The QX60 improves in one step. The 2015 car has 92 complaints, 8.4 per year, and scores 76, with Power Train down to 23; the 2016 car has 29 and scores 93, with Air Bags at 12 the only component above 5. The 2017 car dips to 81 on 68 complaints, Engine 20 on top, and carries 18V601000, issued 7 September 2018, for an anti-lock brake actuator pump that may leak fluid onto a circuit board, followed by 19V807000 for cars the first repair missed on 2017 to 2019 models. From 2018 to 2020 the counts are 38, 37 and 23 and the scores 90, 88 and 93. Power Train returns to the top of the list in 2018 and 2019 at 13 and 10, but on totals about a sixth the size of 2014. The 2022 to 2025 cars, the current generation, score 88, 82, 77 and 74 on 22, 27, 19 and 16 complaints, with low evidence; their campaigns are seats, 22V111000, 23V268000 and 23V108000, headlights, 23V814000, and on the 2024 car a driver air bag inflator, 24V154000, and a seat belt pretensioner, 24V176000.

The 2019 QX50: engine

The QX50 was a new car for 2019, and its first four years on record, 2014 to 2017, are among the cleanest on the site: 2, 3, 19 and 13 complaints, scores of 90 to 94, and no campaigns at all. The 2019 car has 137 complaints, 19.6 per year on the road, and scores 45. Engine leads at 51 and Engine And Engine Cooling is second at 31; together they are more than half the year. Forward Collision Avoidance at 17 and Electrical System at 16 follow. The engine figures now have a campaign behind them: 25V437000, issued 27 June 2025, covering 2019 to 2022 QX50s with the variable compression turbo engine, for the engine's internal hard parts. The 2020 car has 32 complaints and scores 64, the 2021 car 40 and scores 50, both CAUTION, both with Engine on top at 17 and 18 and Forward Collision Avoidance at 7. The 2022 car, at 16 complaints and 78, is the first BUY of the second generation, and the 2023 to 2025 cars have 4, 4 and 1 complaints.

Ranking the five

The QX50 from 2014 to 2017 has the best record here, and the QX50 from 2019 to 2021 one of the worst; it ranks first for its early years, and the buyer must know which generation is on the forecourt. The QX60 ranks second: one bad year, then ten scored BUY years with only 2017 dipping to 81. The Q50 ranks third, because it has two AVOID years and a CAUTION in 2017 rather than one bad year. The two hybrids rank with their siblings: the Q50 Hybrid's 2014 and 2015 cars carry the same steering pattern, and the QX60 Hybrid's 2014 car the same power train pattern, and both are clean from 2016 on zero complaints.

What to check before you buy

  • On a 2014 to 2016 Q50 or Q50 Hybrid, ask for 13V588000 and 16V430000 by number, then drive it on a straight road and through a tight car park; Steering is the year's problem at 78 and 83 complaints.
  • On any 2014 to 2018 two-wheel-drive Q50, ask for 24V470000 for the driveshaft.
  • On a 2014 or 2015 QX60, ask for every transmission and power train invoice, because the record has no campaign for the 118 Power Train complaints and the remedy is in the service history.
  • On a 2014 to 2017 QX60 Hybrid, ask for 21V774000.
  • On a 2017 to 2019 QX60, confirm both brake actuator campaigns, 18V601000 and 19V807000, are closed.
  • On a 2019 to 2022 QX50, ask for 25V437000 and for the oil service record in full, and listen to the engine cold.

Summary

Avoid the 2014 and 2015 Q50 (169 and 125 complaints, scores 37 and 44), the 2014 QX60 (229, score 33) and the 2019 QX50 (137, score 45). Treat the 2017 Q50, the 2014 QX60 Hybrid and the 2020 and 2021 QX50 as CAUTION. Buy a 2016 or newer Q50, a 2015 or newer QX60, or a 2014 to 2017 QX50, and check the campaigns above against the VIN.
