Editor's note
Avoid the 2015, 2017 and 2019 Volkswagen Golf, which score 31, 38 and 46 on 131, 187 and 82 complaints, and treat the 2011 and 2016 cars (scores 60 and 50) with caution. Buy a 2012 to 2014 car, which score 77 to 83 on 48, 43 and 11 complaints, or a 2020 or 2021 car, which score 90 and 92 on 6 and 7. Read the full note on the model page. 2013 specifically: a year the record favours — 43 complaints, score 80/100. The caveats in the note apply to other years of this nameplate more than to this one.
