The BYD Xia is a 5-door minivan from Byd, built from 2025, in the decade the industry is turning electric. Under the bonnet: Petrol engine. Under the lead of Wolfgang Egger drew it.
How it came about
The BYD Xia (Chinese: 比亚迪夏) is a plug-in hybrid minivan manufactured by BYD Auto since 2025. Named after the Xia dynasty, the first dynasty in traditional Chinese historiography, it is part of BYD's Dynasty Series that is marketed through Dynasty Network dealerships. Outside China, it is marketed as the BYD M9 or eMax 9.
The hardware
Power comes from Petrol engine; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. It weighs 2470-2650 kg. It shifts through a E-CVT. The layout matters: the engine drives the front wheels, the packaging choice that gives a small car a big cabin. The wheelbase is 3045 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Its family tree is legible: assembly was at Hefei, Anhui, China. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Tesla Cybertruck, the Nissan Z, the Nissan Kait — show what else the money bought that year. Its Byd stablemates include the BYD 8TT and the BYD Atto 2.
