The BYD Dolphin is a 5-door hatchback from Byd, built from 2021, in the decade the industry is turning electric. Under the lead of Wolfgang Egger drew it.
How it came about
The BYD Dolphin (Chinese: 比亚迪海豚; pinyin: Bǐyǎdí Hǎitún) is a battery electric hatchback produced by the Chinese manufacturer BYD Auto since 2021. A subcompact (B-segment) hatchback, the Dolphin is positioned above the Seagull in the Chinese market and part of BYD's Ocean Series. The Dolphin has been exported to overseas markets such as Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia since 2023 with lengthened dimensions to satisfy more stringent crash safety standards, and placing it in the compact or C-segment space.
The hardware
70 kW is the published figure. It weighs 1285 –. Work it out per tonne and you get about 54 horsepower — unhurried — enough for the job, not for the bragging. It shifts through a 1-speed A/T. The wheelbase is 2700 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Its family tree is legible: assembly was at Shenzhen, Guangdong. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Kia EV6, the Citroën C5 X, the JAC Group Sol X7 — show what else the money bought that year. Its Byd stablemates include the BYD 8TT and the BYD Atto 2.
