Every car is an argument about what matters, and the BYD Atto 3 makes its case with synchronous motor and 100-150 kW. Byd built from 2022 — in the decade the industry is turning electric. The shape is credited to Under the lead of Wolfgang Egger.
The story
The BYD Atto 3, also marketed as BYD Yuan Plus (Chinese: 比亚迪元PLUS) in China and several Latin American countries, is a battery electric compact SUV (C-segment) manufactured by BYD Auto. Part of the BYD Yuan series that is named after the Yuan dynasty, the Yuan Plus was released in mainland China in February 2022. For many overseas markets, the vehicle is BYD's first electric passenger car model.
What is underneath
The engine is synchronous motor; the output is 100-150 kW. On the scales it comes to 1615–1750 kg. That is roughly 62 horsepower per tonne: unhurried — enough for the job, not for the bragging. The wheelbase is 2720 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Its place in the line
In the Byd line-up the BYD Atto 3 has a clear place: it replaced the BYD Yuan; it handed the line to the BYD Yuan Plus (second generation, China); the factory was Changsha, Hunan. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the Kia EV6, the Great Wall Motor Ora Lightning Cat, the Audi Q6. Nearby in the Byd catalogue sit the BYD 8TT and the BYD Atto 2.
