Bmw does not build many cars like the BMW G45: a 5-door SUV with Petrol engine, built from 2024 in the decade the industry is turning electric. Its designer of record is Jacek Pepłowski, Martin Simmet, Serkan Budur (exterior) / Misha Klimov, Erik Melldahl (interior).
How it came about
The BMW X3 G45 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by the German automaker BMW, replacing the third-generation X3 G01, and the fourth-generation model in the BMW X3 series. Like its predecessor, the G45 X3 is based on the BMW Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform utilising a range of mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. However, it no longer has an electric version built on the same platform. Instead, the iX3 (NA5) is based on the Neue Klasse platform.
The hardware
Under the skin sits Petrol engine; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. The gearbox is a 8-speed ZF 8HP transmission / ZF 8HP automatic. The wheelbase is 2865 mm / 2975 mm (LWB). These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Where it sits in Bmw's history is not in doubt: the BMW X3 (G01) came before it; it was built at Greer, South Carolina (BMW in the United States#Spartanburg manufacturing plant. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Tesla Cybertruck, the Nissan Z, the Kia EV6. Its Bmw stablemates include the BMW 116 and the BMW 269.
