Editor's note
No Civic year on record rates AVOID; the one to be careful with is the 2012, a CAUTION at 68 on 454 complaints, the most of any year. Buy a 2013 or 2014, which score 84 and 82 on 316 and 290 complaints, and note that the 2013 has no recall campaigns at all. The site holds the Civic from 2011 to 2015, and the record has two halves. The 2011 to 2013 cars are air bag cars, with Air Bags the top component at 51, 149 and 112; the 2011 carries nine safety-critical campaigns, eight of them passenger-side inflator module recalls. The 2012 adds Steering at 74 and Electrical System at 59, with campaigns for a wrong steering column (12V548000) and a misaligned fuel line O-ring (11V288000). The 2014 and 2015 are transmission cars: Power Train is 98 and 175, and campaign 15V574000 covers both years for transmission control software. The 2015's 377 complaints pull it to 72, still a BUY.
