The LADA Kalina is a 5-door hatchback / 5-door station wagon / 4-door saloon from Lada, built from 2004 to 2018, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. Under the bonnet: 1.4 .
How it came about
The Lada Kalina (Russian: Ла́да Кали́на) is a supermini car produced by the Russian manufacturer Lada (AvtoVAZ) from 18 November 2004 to July 2018. The name Kalina comes from the Russian name for a type of viburnum. It is also marketed as the Lada 117/119 in Finland. The works on Lada Kalina started in 1993. In 1998 the projected vehicle was named "Lada-Kalina". Prototypes were presented in 1999 (hatchback), 2000 (sedan) and 2001 (combi).
The hardware
Power comes from 1.4 other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. It weighs 1080 kg. The layout matters: the engine drives the front wheels, the packaging choice that gives a small car a big cabin. The wheelbase is 2470 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Its family tree is legible: its successor was the Lada Granta; assembly was at Tolyatti. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Ford Mustang, the Suzuki Swift, the Hyundai Tucson — show what else the money bought that year. Its Lada stablemates include the LADA Granta and the LADA Priora.
