Every car is an argument about what matters, and the LADA Granta makes its case with 1.6  and 60 kW. Lada built from 2011 — as electrification stopped being an experiment and the crossover took every market.
The story
The Lada Granta (Russian: Ла́да Гра́нта) is a subcompact car developed by Russian automaker AvtoVAZ in collaboration with Renault, based on the Lada Kalina platform. Mass sales started in Russia on 1 December 2011.
Additional production at the Izhevsk plant began in September 2012, after the old VAZ-2107 was removed from production. A five-door hatchback variant, aimed at replacing the discontinued Lada Samara 2 series in the line-up, debuted in 2014. The Lada Granta was the best-selling car model in Russia from 2013 to 2015.
What is underneath
The engine is 1.6 the output is 60 kW; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. On the scales it comes to 1080 kg. That is roughly 56 horsepower per tonne: unhurried — enough for the job, not for the bragging. Drive goes through a 5-speed manual / 4-speed automatic. The layout matters: the engine drives the front wheels, the packaging choice that gives a small car a big cabin. The wheelbase is 2476 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Its place in the line
In the Lada line-up the LADA Granta has a clear place: it replaced the Lada Kalina; it handed the line to the Lada Iskra; the factory was Tolyatti. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the Daihatsu Mira e:S, the Honda Brio, the Toyota Aqua. Nearby in the Lada catalogue sit the LADA Kalina and the LADA Priora.
