Great Wall Motor does not build many cars like the Tank 300: a 5-door SUV with Petrol engine, built from 2020 in the decade the industry is turning electric.
How it came about
The GWM Tank 300 or Tank 300 (Chinese: 坦克300; pinyin: Tǎnkè 300; lit. 'Tank 300') is a mid-size SUV with a neo-retro body produced by Great Wall Motor (GWM) since 2020. It was originally sold under the Wey premium brand as the Wey Tank 300. Since April 2021, the vehicle was renamed as the Tank 300 under the Tank brand, being positioned below the larger Tank 500. A V6-powered version is marketed as the Tank 330.
The hardware
Under the skin sits Petrol engine; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. Kerb weight is 2155-2313 kg. The gearbox is a 8-speed ZF 8HP transmission / ZF 8HP Automatic transmission / automatic / 9-speed automatic (Tank 330) / 9-speed 9HAT automatic (hybrid). The wheelbase is 2750 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Where it sits in Great Wall Motor's history is not in doubt: the Great Wall Hover came before it; it was built at Chongqing. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Tesla Model Y, the Porsche Taycan, the Kia EV6. Its Great Wall Motor stablemates include the Great Wall Coolbear and the Great Wall Cowry.
