The Pontiac Parisienne is a car from Pontiac, built from 1959 to 1987, at the height of the post-war boom. Under the bonnet: gasoline engine.

The background

The Pontiac Parisienne is a full-size rear-wheel drive vehicle that was sold by Pontiac on the GM B platform in Canada from 1958 to 1986 and in the United States from 1983 to 1986. Right-hand drive models were locally assembled in Australia and South Africa until 1969.

For most of its run, the Canadian Parisienne was nearly mechanically identical to the American Chevrolet Impala or Chevrolet Caprice. The Parisienne wagon continued under the Safari nameplate until 1989. The model name comes from the French word Parisienne, which refers to a grammatically female person or thing from Paris.

The engineering

Power comes from gasoline engine. The layout matters: a front engine drives the rear wheels, the classic proportion — long bonnet, cabin set back — that most people picture when they picture a sports saloon or a grand tourer. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Where it sits

Its family tree is legible: it took over from the Pontiac Catalina (For U.S.) / Pontiac Bonneville (original full-size model); its successor was the Pontiac Bonneville (1987) / Pontiac G8 (for RWD) / Australia (1968): Holden Brougham; assembly was at Oshawa Car Assembly, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Nissan Patrol, the Mini Mini, the Dodge Challenger — show what else the money bought that year. Its Pontiac stablemates include the Pontiac 2+2 and the Pontiac 6.

What it costs now

There is no federal ownership record for the Pontiac Parisienne — it predates the complaint database or was never sold in the United States — so MotorJury publishes no running-cost figure for it. For a car of this age the price is set by the collector market and the condition of the individual example, not by a formula.
