The Pontiac Banshee is a car from Pontiac, built from 1964 to 1988, in the decade that gave the world the pony car and the mid-engined supercar. Under the bonnet: NNN cuin.

How it came about

The Pontiac Banshee is a line of concept cars designed by Pontiac, assuming the role previously established by General Motors' Firebirds of the 1950s.

Four Banshee "dream cars" were fabricated through 1988 as design exercises intended to establish exterior and interior themes that could be modified for production versions of Pontiac sports and performance cars. Banshee was also the leading candidate for Pontiac's version of the Camaro before being named Firebird in light of any deathly associations of the word Banshee.

The hardware

Power comes from NNN cuin. It weighs NNN -. The wheelbase is NNN in. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Its family tree is legible: it took over from the Pontiac Club de Mer; its successor was the Pontiac Rageous. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Plymouth Barracuda, the Porsche 911, the Ford Transit — show what else the money bought that year. Its Pontiac stablemates include the Pontiac 2+2 and the Pontiac 6.

What it costs now

There is no federal ownership record for the Pontiac Banshee — it predates the complaint database or was never sold in the United States — so MotorJury publishes no running-cost figure for it. For a car of this age the price is set by the collector market and the condition of the individual example, not by a formula.
