The Nissan AZEAL is a 2-door fastback coupe from Nissan, built from 2006, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. Under the bonnet: 2.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder. Ken Lee / David Wong drew it.
How it came about
The Nissan AZEAL was a sports concept car manufactured by Nissan and first released to the public at the 2005 North American International Auto Show. The concept was aimed to the young drivers.
The hardware
Power comes from 2.5 L turbocharged 4-cylinder. It shifts through a 6-speed manual. The layout matters: the engine drives the front wheels, the packaging choice that gives a small car a big cabin. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Audi R8, the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Hyundai i30 — show what else the money bought that year. Its Nissan stablemates include the Nissan N6 and the Nissan N7.
What it costs now
EPA combined economy is 22 mpg, about $3,450 a year in fuel at the EPA's assumptions. Condition, mileage and specification move any single car a long way from a headline figure.
