Every car is an argument about what matters, and the Hongqi S9 makes its case with 4.0  and 1400 PS total. Hongqi built from 2021 to 2023 — in the decade the industry is turning electric. The shape is credited to Walter de Silva / Yangfeng Ding (concept).
The story
The Hongqi S9 is a hybrid sports car produced by Chinese automobile manufacturer Hongqi, a subsidiary of FAW Group, which was presented at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
What is underneath
The engine is 4.0 the output is 1400 PS total. The layout matters: the engine sits behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle, which puts the mass in the middle of the car and is why mid-engined cars change direction the way they do. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Its place in the line
In the Hongqi line-up the Hongqi S9 has a clear place: the factory was Reggio Emilia. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the McLaren Speedtail, the Buick Wildcat EV, the Bugatti Centodieci. Nearby in the Hongqi catalogue sit the Hongqi and the Hongqi 774.
