Numbers first, because with the Bugatti Centodieci they are the story: 8.0 L quad-turbocharged W16, 1600 PS. Bugatti built from 2022, in the decade the industry is turning electric. Its designer of record is Achim Anscheidt, Nils Sajonz. Production ran to 10 cars.

Where it came from

The Bugatti Centodieci (Italian for "110") is a limited production mid-engine sports car produced by French automotive manufacturer Bugatti. The car is a homage to the Bugatti EB 110 and a celebration of the Bugatti marque's 110th birthday.

It was revealed on 16 August 2019 at "The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering" in California, United States. The Centodieci is 20 kg lighter than the Bugatti Chiron, and has an 8.0 L (488.2 cu in) quad-turbocharged W16 engine, rated at 1,177 kW (1,600 PS; 1,578 hp) at 7,000 rpm. Production of the Centodieci was limited to 10 units priced at €8 million (approximately $10 million at the 2019 exchange rate) each.

Under the skin

Under the skin sits 8.0 L quad-turbocharged W16; it is rated at 1600 PS. Kerb weight is 1976 kg. Power-to-weight lands near 810 horsepower per tonne, which is hypercar territory, where the limiting factor is the tyre, not the engine. The gearbox is a 7-speed dual-clutch. The layout matters: the engine sits behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle, which puts the mass in the middle of the car and is why mid-engined cars change direction the way they do. The wheelbase is NNNN mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

In context

Where it sits in Bugatti's history is not in doubt: it was built at Molsheim (Bugatti Atelier Molsheim), France. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Lotus Evija, the Hongqi S9, the Volvo EX90. Nearby in the Bugatti catalogue sit the Bugatti 57 Galibier and the Bugatti 8-cylinder line.
