GAZ does not build many cars like the GAZ-31105: a 4-door saloon/sedan with 2.5&nbsp, built from 2004 to 2009 in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids.

How it came about

The GAZ-31105 Volga is an automobile manufactured by the Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (GAZ, Gorky Automobile Plant) from 2004 to 2009 as a generation of its Volga marque. GAZ-31105 was a second stage of the GAZ-3110's modernisation, though the designation was applied to cars produced from January 2004, the mechanical features were introduced almost a year earlier, and certain external ones were available in separate batches as standard or optional in others.

The hardware

Under the skin sits 2.5  other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. Kerb weight is 1,400-1,560 kg. The gearbox is a 5-speed Manual (2004–2009) / 4-speed Aisin Warner Automatic (2004–2010). The layout matters: a front engine drives the rear wheels, the classic proportion — long bonnet, cabin set back — that most people picture when they picture a sports saloon or a grand tourer. The wheelbase is 2800-3100 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Where it sits in GAZ's history is not in doubt: the GAZ-3110 came before it; the Volga Siber followed it; it was built at Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Suzuki Swift, the Hyundai Tucson, the Chrysler 300. Its GAZ stablemates include the Chaika and the GAZ 24-24.
