Chrysler does not build many cars like the Chrysler E-Class: a 4-door sedan with 2.2&nbsp, built from 1982 to 1984 in the age of turbocharging and the first electronic engine management.

How it came about

The Chrysler E Class is a mid-size car that was produced by Chrysler from 1983 to 1984. Taking its name from its Chrysler platform designation, the E Class commenced an era of downsized Chrysler vehicles, serving as a companion model for the first front-wheel drive Chrysler New Yorker.

Alongside the twelfth-generation New Yorker, the E Class shared the Chrysler E platform with the Dodge 600 and the Plymouth Caravelle (initially sold by Chrysler Canada). For its entire production, Chrysler assembled the E Class in its Jefferson Avenue Assembly facility (Detroit, Michigan).

The hardware

Under the skin sits 2.2  other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. Kerb weight is 1144 kg. The gearbox is a 3-speed A413 automatic / 3-speed A470 automatic. The layout matters: the engine drives the front wheels, the packaging choice that gives a small car a big cabin. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Where it sits in Chrysler's history is not in doubt: the Chrysler Newport came before it; the Plymouth Caravelle followed it; it was built at Jefferson Avenue Assembly, Detroit, Michigan, United States. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Toyota Camry, the Porsche 944, the Nissan Micra. Its Chrysler stablemates include the Chrysler Falcon and the Chrysler Chronos.

The money

There is no federal ownership record for the Chrysler E-Class — it predates the complaint database or was never sold in the United States — so MotorJury publishes no running-cost figure for it. For a car of this age the price is set by the collector market and the condition of the individual example, not by a formula.
