The Buick Electra L7 is the Buick that answered a simple question — how much car can this badge carry? — with 338 hp from Petrol engine. It was built from 2025, in the decade the industry is turning electric. Its designer of record is Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center.

How it came about

The Buick Electra L7 (Chinese: 别克至境L7; pinyin: Biékè Zhìjìng L7) is a battery electric and range extender full-size sedan produced by SAIC-GM. It is the first model of the China-exclusive Electra sub-brand and also the first model to be based on the Xiao Yao platform. It is the production version of the Electra Sedan Precursor concept.

The hardware

Under the skin sits Petrol engine; it is rated at 338 hp; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. Kerb weight is 2105 kg. Power-to-weight lands near 161 horsepower per tonne, which is quick by any era's standard, the kind of figure a hot hatch or a sports saloon posts. The wheelbase is 3000 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Where it sits in Buick's history is not in doubt: it was built at Wuhan, Hubei (SAIC-GM), China. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Nissan Z, the Toyota bZ5, the Volvo EX60. Its Buick stablemates include the Buick First Call and the Buick Funeral Car.
