Start with what the Suzuki Wagon R is: a 4/5-door hatchback with 657&nbsp, built from 1993, when airbags, anti-lock brakes and Japanese build quality became the world standard. What it meant takes a little longer.

How it came about

The Suzuki Wagon R (Japanese: スズキ・ワゴンR, Suzuki Wagon'āru) is a kei car manufactured and marketed by Suzuki since 1993. The R in the name stands for Revolution and Relaxation. The Wagon R uses a "tall wagon" configuration to maximize cabin space within kei car dimensional restrictions.

The Wagon R is also sold by Mazda as the AZ-Wagon from 1994 to 2012 and as the Flair from 2012. The Wagon R has been the best-selling kei car in Japan since 2003. In 2008, Suzuki produced its three-millionth Wagon R. Sales reached 5 million at the end of February 2010.

The hardware

The engine is 657  other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. On the scales it comes to 720 –. Family and rivals

In the Suzuki line-up the Suzuki Wagon R has a clear place: the factory was Kosai, Shizuoka (Kosai Assembly Plant), Japan. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Renault Twingo, the Audi A4. Its Suzuki stablemates include the Suzuki XL-7 and the Suzuki Landy.
