Subaru does not build many cars like the Subaru Pleo: a 5-door microvan (1998–2009) / 3/5-door hatchback (2010–2018) with 658cc EN07 I4, built from 1998 to 2018 when airbags, anti-lock brakes and Japanese build quality became the world standard.
How it came about
The Subaru Pleo is a kei car marketed by the Japanese automaker Subaru from 1998 to 2018. The Pleo is taller than conventional kei car hatchbacks, but shorter than the definitive microvan, the Suzuki Wagon R, and was available with a variety of 658 cc I4 engines: SOHC, DOHC, and supercharged in two different trim levels. It competed with the Honda Life, Daihatsu Move, and the Mitsubishi Toppo in the tall wagon segment of kei cars in Japan. The name "pleo" is Latin meaning "to fill" or "to fulfill."
The hardware
Under the skin sits 658cc EN07 I4. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual / i-CVT. The wheelbase is 2310 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Where it sits in Subaru's history is not in doubt: the Subaru Vivio came before it; the Subaru Pleo Plus followed it. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Cadillac Escalade, the Ford Focus, the Saab Automobile Saab 9-3. Its Subaru stablemates include the Subaru Chiffon and the Subaru Lucra.
