Porsche does not build many cars like the Porsche P1 with electric motor, built from 1898 to 1899 when the motor car was still a public experiment.

How it came about

The Egger-Lohner C.2 Phaeton, erroneously called Porsche P1, is an electric vehicle built by Egger-Lohner. It is the first vehicle that Ferdinand Porsche somewhat contributed to. The vehicle resembles a horse-drawn carriage with an electrical motor attached to it. Approximately four were built.

The hardware

Under the skin sits electric motor. Kerb weight is 2,977 lbs. The gearbox is a single-speed. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Where it sits in Porsche's history is not in doubt: it was built at Austria. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Benz & Cie. Benz type Velociped vis-à-vis, the Panhard & Levassor Type A1/A2 landaulet, the Panhard & Levassor M2F Break CnAM 20520. Its Porsche stablemates include the Porsche Type 12 and the MPV Tehran.

The money

There is no federal ownership record for the Porsche P1 — it predates the complaint database or was never sold in the United States — so MotorJury publishes no running-cost figure for it. For a car of this age the price is set by the collector market and the condition of the individual example, not by a formula.
