The Lexus RZ is the Lexus that answered a simple question — how much car can this badge carry? — with 150 – from lithium-ion battery. It was built from 2023, in the decade the industry is turning electric. Daichi Kimura drew it.
How it came about
The Lexus RZ (Japanese: レクサス・RZ, Hepburn: Rekusasu RZ) is a battery electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV built by Toyota for its luxury division Lexus since 2023.
It is considered a "large SUV" by Euro NCAP and a "small sport utility vehicle" by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The RZ is built on the e-TNGA platform shared with the Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra, it is the first dedicated battery electric vehicle of the Lexus marque that will be sold worldwide and also the second battery electric model after the ICE-based UX 300e.
The hardware
Power comes from lithium-ion battery; 150 – is the published figure. It weighs NNNN kg. It shifts through a eAxle. The wheelbase is 2850 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Its family tree is legible: assembly was at Toyota, Aichi (Motomachi plant), Japan. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Kia EV6, the Kia EV5, the Geely Galaxy L6 — show what else the money bought that year. Its Lexus stablemates include the Lexus ES (V20) and the Lexus GS 450h.
What it costs now
The money question first: $30,200–$53,600 is the typical asking range today, and running it — fuel and maintenance at its age — costs about $1,055–$1,775 a year. Insurance sits around $1,950–$2,930 a year. The figures are class-level estimates from the federal record, with the formula on the methodology page; the model-year pages carry complaints, recalls and repair costs year by year.
