The Lamborghini Veneno is the Lamborghini that answered a simple question — how much car can this badge carry? — with 750 PS from 6.5 . It was built from 2013 to 2014, as electrification stopped being an experiment and the crossover took every market. The shape is credited to Filippo Perini / Michele Tinazzo.
How it came about
The Lamborghini Veneno (Spanish pronunciation: [beˈneno], lit. 'poison') is a limited production high performance sports car manufactured by Italian automobile manufacturer Lamborghini. Based on the Aventador, the Veneno was developed to celebrate Lamborghini's 50th anniversary. It was introduced at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. When introduced, it had a price of US$4,000,000, making it one of the most expensive production cars in the world.
The hardware
The engine is 6.5 the output is 750 PS. On the scales it comes to 1490 kg (Roadster. That is roughly 503 horsepower per tonne: hypercar territory, where the limiting factor is the tyre, not the engine. Drive goes through a 7-speed ISR automated manual. The layout matters: the engine sits behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle, which puts the mass in the middle of the car and is why mid-engined cars change direction the way they do. The wheelbase is 2700 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
In the Lamborghini line-up the Lamborghini Veneno has a clear place: the factory was Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the Ferrari 488, the Porsche 918 Spyder, the McLaren P1. Its Lamborghini stablemates include the Lamborghini Calà and the Lamborghini Marco Polo.
