The Geely GE is a 4-door sedan from Geely, built from 2009, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. Under the bonnet: 2.4L JLD-4G24 I4.
Where it came from
The Emgrand GE, formerly known as the Geely GE, is a three-seat full-size luxury concept car that was first unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2009. GE originally appeared similar to the Rolls-Royce Phantom before being restyled in 2010 and rebadged as an Emgrand, Geely's luxury brand. Price was to be ranged between US$31,000 and $47,000 and was scheduled to be available to the Chinese market in 2014.
Under the skin
Power comes from 2.4L JLD-4G24 I4. It shifts through a 6-Speed Automatic. The layout matters: a front engine drives the rear wheels, the classic proportion — long bonnet, cabin set back — that most people picture when they picture a sports saloon or a grand tourer. The wheelbase is 3150 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
In context
Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Tesla Roadster, the Nissan 370Z, the Jeep Grand Cherokee — show what else the money bought that year. Nearby in the Geely catalogue sit the Geely Yuanjing X6 and the Englon SC5-RV.
