The Audi R8 42 is a 2-door coupé / 2-door convertible (spyder) from Audi, built from 2006 to 2015, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. Under the bonnet: 4.2&nbsp. Walter de Silva / Frank Lamberty (2004) drew it.

The story

The Audi R8 (Type 42) is the first generation of the R8 sports car developed and manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Audi. Conceived in 2003 in concept form, the R8 was put into production in June 2006.

The Type 42 is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo and shares its chassis and engine. Audi's parent company Volkswagen Group owns Lamborghini as well and components of both of the cars were shared mainly to save development costs. Production of the Type 42 ended in August 2015, following the introduction of the Type 4S at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show which was based on an entirely new platform.

What is underneath

Power comes from 4.2  other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. It weighs 1560 -. It shifts through a 6-speed Graziano Trasmissioni / Graziano Manual transmission / manual / 6-speed Graziano Trasmissioni / Graziano Electrohydraulic manual transmission / R-Tronic single-clutch autom. The wheelbase is 2650 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Its place in the line

Its family tree is legible: its successor was the Audi R8 (Type 4S); assembly was at Neckarsulm. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Nissan Qashqai, the Nissan GT-R, the Aston Martin Vantage — show what else the money bought that year. Nearby in the Audi catalogue sit the Audi 200 and the Audi 225.

What it costs now

EPA combined economy is 17 mpg, about $5,150 a year in fuel at the EPA's assumptions. Condition, mileage and specification move any single car a long way from a headline figure.
