The Tata Indigo is a 4-door sedan / 5-door station wagon from Tata Motors Ltd, built from 2002 to 2016, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. Under the bonnet: 1.4 L I4. Justyn Norek at I.DE.A Institute drew it.

How it came about

The Tata Manza is a compact sedan produced by the Indian manufacturer Tata Motors from 2009 through 2016. It is the four-door saloon version of the Tata Vista, a supermini especially designed for developing countries. In 2009, Tata released the second generation of the Indigo, called Tata Indigo Manza to distinguish it from the first generation which remained in production.

The hardware

Power comes from 1.4 L I4; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. It shifts through a 5-speed Manual. The layout matters: a front engine drives the rear wheels, the classic proportion — long bonnet, cabin set back — that most people picture when they picture a sports saloon or a grand tourer. The wheelbase is 2450 mm / XL: 2650 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Its family tree is legible: its successor was the Tata Zest; assembly was at Pune, Maharashtra, India. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Porsche Cayenne, the Mazda Mazda6, the Citroën C3 — show what else the money bought that year. Its Tata Motors Ltd stablemates include the TaMo Racemo and the Tata 407.
