Proton does not build many cars like the Proton P2-30A: a 5-door hatchback with 1.3 L VVT S4PE DOHC I4, built from 2014 to 2025 as electrification stopped being an experiment and the crossover took every market. Its designer of record is Azlan Othman.
How it came about
The Proton Iriz is a supermini (B-segment) produced by Malaysian automobile manufacturer Proton from 2014 to 2025. It was unveiled on 25 September 2014 at Proton City by Malaysia’s fourth and seventh prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad. The Iriz platform is also used by its sedan equivalent, the Persona (BH) which was introduced in 2016. The name Iriz is inspired by the anatomical term iris, responsible for sight and vision.
The hardware
Under the skin sits 1.3 L VVT S4PE DOHC I4; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. Kerb weight is 1165 -. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual (2014–2021) / CVT (2014-2025). The layout matters: the engine drives the front wheels, the packaging choice that gives a small car a big cabin.
