Start with what the Lotus Evora is: a 2-door coupé / 2-door 2+2 coupé with 3.5 , built from 2009 to 2021, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. What it meant takes a little longer. The shape is credited to Russell Carr.
The background
The Lotus Evora is a sports car produced by British automaker Lotus. The car, which was developed under the project name Project Eagle, was launched on 22 July 2008 at the British International Motor Show. The Evora S was launched in 2010 with a supercharged 3.5-litre V6.
The facelifted and more powerful Evora 400 model was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, followed by another more powerful variant, the Evora GT430, which was unveiled in 2017. The Lotus Evora is based on the first all-new vehicle platform from Lotus Cars since the introduction of the Lotus Elise in 1995 (the Exige and the 2006 Europa S are both derivatives of the Elise). The Evora was planned to be the first of three vehicles to be built on the same platform. The sales target was 2,000 cars per year, with prices between £45,000 and just over £50,000, with sales in the United States scheduled from the beginning of 2010.
The engineering
The engine is 3.5 other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. On the scales it comes to 1248 kg–1442 kg. Drive goes through a 6-speed Aisin AI manual / 6-speed Aisin AI IPS automatic. The layout matters: the engine sits behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle, which puts the mass in the middle of the car and is why mid-engined cars change direction the way they do. The wheelbase is 2575 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Where it sits
In the Lotus line-up the Lotus Evora has a clear place: it handed the line to the Lotus Emira; the factory was Hethel, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Tesla Roadster, the Lexus LFA. Its Lotus stablemates include the Lotus 100T and the Lotus 101.
