Lincoln does not build many cars like the Lincoln Custom: a Limousine / 4-door sedan, built from 1941 to 1955 in a decade split by war, when civilian production stopped and restarted.

The background

The Lincoln Custom is a custom limousine and long-wheelbase touring sedan that was built by Lincoln in 1941 and 1942 and the lower level series Lincoln produced in 1955. Initially it was a replacement for the previous Model K Lincolns (produced from 1934 to 1939) and earlier luxury cars of the 1920s and 1930s.

The body work for the Custom was provided by the factory and came in one appearance and abandoned the previous Model L and Model K of years past of manufacturing only the chassis then a long list of coachbuilders would provide coachwork to the customer's preference. In later years it was simply the base model series.

Under the skin

The record carries the shape — a Limousine / 4-door sedan. The engine, output and weight have not yet reached the open record, and MotorJury does not guess at them.

Where it sits

Where it sits in Lincoln's history is not in doubt: the Lincoln K series came before it; it was built at Lincoln Assembly, Detroit, Michigan. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Volkswagen Beetle, the Ford 1941 Ford, the Peugeot VLV. Its Lincoln stablemates include the Lincoln First Call and the Lincoln Funeral Car.

The money

There is no federal ownership record for the Lincoln Custom — it predates the complaint database or was never sold in the United States — so MotorJury publishes no running-cost figure for it. For a car of this age the price is set by the collector market and the condition of the individual example, not by a formula.
