Jeep does not build many cars like the Jeep Renegade: a 5-door SUV with Petrol engine, built from 2014 to 2022 as electrification stopped being an experiment and the crossover took every market. Its designer of record is Jeremy Glover and Ian Hedge.
The background
The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade is the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger.
It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform, which is also shared with other FCA models, including those from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands. The Renegade comes as standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
The engineering
Under the skin sits Petrol engine; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. Kerb weight is 3078 -. The gearbox is a 5-speed Fiat Powertrain Technologies / FPT C510 Manual / 6-speed Fiat Powertrain Technologies / FPT C630 Manual (1.0) / 6-speed Fiat Powertrain Technologies / FPT C635 Manual / 6-s. The wheelbase is 101.2 in. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Where it sits
Where it sits in Jeep's history is not in doubt: it was built at Melfi. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Infiniti Q50, the Ford Escort, the Ferrari 488. Its Jeep stablemates include the Jeep Wrangler (JK) and the Jeep Wrangler (TJ).
The money
On the used market today a Jeep Renegade typically changes hands for $11,300–$32,900, and running it — fuel and maintenance at its age — costs about $2,975–$6,261 a year. Insurance sits around $1,160–$2,140 a year. The figures are class-level estimates from the federal record, with the formula on the methodology page; the model-year pages carry complaints, recalls and repair costs year by year.
