Start with what the Jaguar XJ (X351) is: a 4-door saloon with 3.0&nbsp, built from 2009 to 2019, in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. What it meant takes a little longer. The shape is credited to Ian Callum (design director: 2005–2008) / Giles Taylor (2006, 2008).

How it came about

The Jaguar XJ (X351) is a saloon car built by British manufacturer Jaguar Cars, later known as Jaguar Land Rover, from 2010 to 2019. It is the fourth and final generation of the Jaguar XJ model.

Referred to internally within Jaguar as the X351, it was announced in 2009 before going on sale in 2010, and combined revised styling with underpinnings of the previous Jaguar X350 generation. The model was discontinued in 2019. It was the final generation of the XJ, after the electric Jaguar XJ was cancelled in February 2021.

The hardware

The engine is 3.0  other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. On the scales it comes to Diesel: 1796 kg. Drive goes through a 6-speed automatic / 8-speed automatic (2013 onwards). The wheelbase is XJ: 3032 mm / XJ-L: 3157 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

In the Jaguar line-up the Jaguar XJ (X351) has a clear place: it replaced the Jaguar XJ (X350) / Jaguar XJ (X358); the factory was Birmingham. The cars a buyer would have weighed it against include the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Nissan 370Z, the Nissan Leaf. Its Jaguar stablemates include the F-Type and the Vanden Plas.

Owning one today

Buying one now means $17,700–$46,800 for a typical example, and running it — fuel and maintenance at its age — costs about $4,525–$7,526 a year. Insurance sits around $1,860–$3,570 a year. The figures are class-level estimates from the federal record, with the formula on the methodology page; the model-year pages carry complaints, recalls and repair costs year by year.
