The Jaguar XE is a 4-door saloon from Jaguar, built from 2015 to 2024, as electrification stopped being an experiment and the crossover took every market. Under the bonnet: Petrol engine. Ian Callum (2013) drew it.

How it came about

The Jaguar XE (X760) is a compact executive car manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover and marketed under their Jaguar marque from April 2015 until mid-2024 across a single generation. It is a four-door saloon car with a front-mounted engine and either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The successor to the X-Type, it was designed by Ian Callum and launched at the October 2014 Paris Motor Show. The XE has an aluminium suspension as well as its bonded-and-riveted unitary aluminium monocoque structure, without need for a reinforcing space frame. This was developed by Jaguar on their third generation XJ-series (X350; from 2002) — the first in its segment.

The hardware

Power comes from Petrol engine; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. It weighs 1474 kg - 1665 kg. It shifts through a 6-speed manual transmission / manual (ZF Friedrichshafen / ZF) / ZF 8HP transmission / 8-speed automatic (ZF 8HP transmission / ZF 8HP45 or 8HP70). The wheelbase is 2835 mm / 2935 mm (XEL). These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Its family tree is legible: it took over from the Jaguar X-Type; assembly was at Solihull. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Chevrolet Camaro, the Ferrari 488, the Ford Escort — show what else the money bought that year. Its Jaguar stablemates include the F-Type and the Vanden Plas.

What it costs now

The money question first: $22,300–$42,400 is the typical asking range today, and running it — fuel and maintenance at its age — costs about $3,534–$5,542 a year. Insurance sits around $1,800–$2,910 a year. The figures are class-level estimates from the federal record, with the formula on the methodology page; the model-year pages carry complaints, recalls and repair costs year by year.
