The Jaguar C-X17 is a 5-door SUV from Jaguar, built from 2013, as electrification stopped being an experiment and the crossover took every market. Under the bonnet: 3.0-litre AJ126 340PS 6-cylinder (V6) supercharged petrol. Ian Callum drew it.

The story

The Jaguar C-X17 is a concept crossover SUV designed by Jaguar Land Rover and unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the first ever Jaguar crossover SUV. It was expected that the C-X17 concept would evolve into a production model, and at the 2015 North American International Auto Show it was announced that the production version for 2016 would be called the F-Pace.

What is underneath

Power comes from 3.0-litre AJ126 340PS 6-cylinder (V6) supercharged petrol. It shifts through a 6 Speed Automatic. The layout matters: drive goes to all four wheels, which is what lets the power be used on a wet road. The wheelbase is 2905 mm. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Its place in the line

Its family tree is legible: its successor was the Jaguar F-Pace. Its contemporaries in the catalogue — the Infiniti Q50, the Tesla Model X, the Peugeot 208 — show what else the money bought that year. Nearby in the Jaguar catalogue sit the F-Type and the Vanden Plas.
