Chery does not build many cars like the Chery Q22: a 5-door Station wagon / wagon (Youyou) / 2-door truck (Youjin) with Petrol engine, built from 2009 to 2022 in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids.
How it came about
The Chery Q22 or Karry Youyou (UU, 优优) is a commercial minivan produced by Karry, a sub-brand of the Group Chery Holding brand for making commercial vans, trucks, SUVs, and mini-MPV's, which are mostly sold in third and fourth-tier cities and the countryside in China.
The hardware
Under the skin sits Petrol engine; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual. The layout matters: the engine sits behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle, which puts the mass in the middle of the car and is why mid-engined cars change direction the way they do. The wheelbase is 2600 mm / 2800 mm (Q22L). These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.
Family and rivals
Where it sits in Chery's history is not in doubt: it was built at Wuhu Anhui, China. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Tesla Roadster, the Lexus LFA. Its Chery stablemates include the Chery Arrizo 5 GT and the Chery A1.
