Buick does not build many cars like the Buick Apollo: a 2-door coupe / 2-door hatchback / 4-door sedan with 250 CID Chevrolet I6, built from 1973 to 1975 as the oil crises and the first emissions rules rewired the industry.

How it came about

The Buick Apollo is a compact car that was manufactured from 1973 to 1975 by General Motors for its Buick division. It was based on the GM X platform along with the Oldsmobile Omega, Chevrolet Nova, and the Pontiac Ventura. The car was named for the Greek god Apollo. It was available as a coupe, two-door hatchback, or four-door sedan. The two-door models were renamed Skylark for 1975; only the sedan carried the Apollo nameplate for that year. A total of 112,901 Apollos were built.

The hardware

Under the skin sits 250 CID Chevrolet I6; other versions carried different engines, listed in the specification table below. The gearbox is a 3-speed manual / 3-speed THM350 automatic. The wheelbase is 111 in. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Family and rivals

Where it sits in Buick's history is not in doubt: the Buick Special came before it; the Buick Skylark (1976) followed it; it was built at Leeds Assembly, Leeds, Kansas City, Missouri, U.S.. On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Volkswagen Passat, the Lancia Stratos, the Mitsubishi Lancer. Its Buick stablemates include the Buick First Call and the Buick Funeral Car.

The money

There is no federal ownership record for the Buick Apollo — it predates the complaint database or was never sold in the United States — so MotorJury publishes no running-cost figure for it. For a car of this age the price is set by the collector market and the condition of the individual example, not by a formula.
