Acura does not build many cars like the Acura ZDX (2009): a 5-door coupé SUV (2009–2013) / 5-door SUV (2024–2025) with 3.7&nbsp, built from 2009 to 2025 in the decade of stability control, dual-clutch gearboxes and the first serious hybrids. Its designer of record is Michelle Christensen.

The background

The Acura ZDX is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV developed by Japanese manufacturer Honda for its upmarket brand Acura. The first-generation ZDX debuted at the 2009 New York International Auto Show on April 8, 2009, as a 2010 model. The vehicle was the first to be completely designed at Acura's Southern California design studio in Torrance. Lead designer Michelle Christensen labeled it a "4-door luxury sports coupe" due to its sloping rear roofline, and Acura says it "blurs the distinction between coupe, sedan and sport utility vehicle." The ZDX features Acura's first six speed automatic transmission, advanced ventilated seats, as well as other luxury appointments.

Although the ZDX shares a similar profile with the Honda Crosstour, the two vehicles are not mechanically related: the latter is based on the Honda Accord, while the ZDX is based on the Honda Pilot/Acura MDX. The ZDX nameplate returned to Acura's lineup in 2024 as the brand's first electric vehicle. It was co-developed with General Motors. In September 2025, Acura announced its discontinuation and planned to introduce the RSX as their electric vehicle offering in 2026.

The engineering

Under the skin sits 3.7&nbsp. Kerb weight is 4452 lbs. The gearbox is a 6-speed automatic. The layout matters: drive goes to all four wheels, which is what lets the power be used on a wet road. The wheelbase is 108.3 in. These are manufacturer figures carried by Wikipedia and Wikidata, not road-test measurements.

Where it sits

Where it sits in Acura's history is not in doubt: the Acura RDX / Acura MDX followed it; it was built at Alliston, Ontario, Canada (HCM). On a showroom list of its day it stood against the Nissan Leaf, the Lexus LFA, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Its Acura stablemates include the Acura ADX and the Acura ARX-06.

The money

On the used market today a Acura ZDX (2009) typically changes hands for $17,700–$50,500, and running it — fuel and maintenance at its age — costs about $1,630–$7,298 a year. Insurance sits around $1,860–$3,040 a year. The figures are class-level estimates from the federal record, with the formula on the methodology page; the model-year pages carry complaints, recalls and repair costs year by year.
